Driopteris affinis

Botanical illustration of the fern Dryopteris affinis. This is a species of perennial fern that grows in humid forests and shaded areas of Europe and parts of Asia. It is characterized by its large, pinnate, deep green leaves, which can reach up to one meter in length.

Create a botanical illustration of this species showing its main characteristics to facilitate its identification.

The result

Illustration showing the fern of the species Driopteris affinis, created using the pointillism technique to show the most characteristic morphological details of the species. The illustration includes details of the rhizome, the frond, the underside of the pinules, the sori, and the sporangium. This illustration was created as part of a class project for the Master’s Degree in Scientific Illustration at the University of the Basque Country (UPV-EHU) with  Carles Puche.
